Farm Description

The Cameron Place Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) provides over 150 families with organically grown fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers across the Grand Valley in Mesa county, Colorado.  We also provide our produce to many local businesses including restaurants and Bed and Breakfasts.

Our 5+ acre garden in Palisade is truly a spectacular setting:  the fields are surrounded by the famous Bookcliffs to the North, the Grand Mesa and Horse Mountain to our east and south respectively, and to our west, the Grand Valley containing Grand Junction, one of the fastest growing cities on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains.  Traditionally prime peach country, we are the first here in Palisade to supply not only locally-grown organic fruit but also an ever-expanding array of produce to the people of this great valley. We utilize sustainable techniques  emphasizing long-term productivity and health of the land and for those who work it and are nourished by its bounty. Our crops are also nourished with compost, flowering cover crops, intense Colorado sunshine, and water from the Colorado river flowing by.

The farm here at The Cameron Place is just a small part of a bigger issue and initiative. The CSA concept is an international and progressive movement seeking to reduce our carbon footprint, prioritize a healthy lifestyle, and re-establish a locally based sustainable agricultural system.  Our farm offers a space where the community can reconnect with the source of their food and can learn about the processes in which it grows.  Perhaps most importantly, we strive to provide a bridge between the community "at large" and those who grow their food and love doing so "on the farm."

We here at the farm thank you for your interest and support. Please feel free to contact us anytime!

Always Growing

Posted by Jessica Washkowiak :: Tuesday, December 6 :: 9:19am

The Cameron Place CSA is searching for a new farm manager for the 2012 growing season.  Scott and Jessica did a good job in 2011, and have decided to look for other jobs with higher salaries.  I appreciate their enthusiasm and hard work, and wish them well.

As a farmer who has been dependent on risk-based income for 33 years, I firmly believe that a successful CSA manager must be willing to share a portion of the risk that crops and income may fail from natural causes beyond our control.  More importantly, success also hinges on the things that a farmer and farm manager can control, and difficult choices are inherent in running any enterprise.

The farm grounds, barn and greenhouse are in great shape due to the good work of Ben Wilke, Scott and Jessica Washkowiak, Ben Hill, Emily, Garance, Jessica E., Julio, and our work-share volunteers and WWOOFers.  I am confident that we will find excellent candidates for the Cameron Place's farm manager's job from a pool that includes former interns and other individuals who are eager for the opportunity to lead a CSA that is well-established and fully equipped to meet the needs of our local food and farming community.

Please write to cameronplacecsa@bresnan.net with your concerns, questions or suggestions.

Thank you,

Thomas Cameron
